Today, while we celebrate our independence and freedom, let us not forget those enlisted men and women who protect our spanning shores, our beautiful land, and our towering mountains. Our active, inactive, and veteran military members have ensured our freedom for hundreds of years. And let us also remember our domestic heroes, those in fire, EMS, and police, who protect our property, health, and security, here at home.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July.

"Firemen are going to get killed. When they join the department they face that fact. When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. They were not thinking of getting killed when they went where death lurked. They went there to put the fire out, and got killed. Firefighters do not regard themselves as heroes because they do what the business requires."

Chief Edward F. Croker

(Please never forget these quotes include the strong women who also brave the flames and call themselves firefighters.)

"Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless facing them."
